Poettker Construction cites big projects, safety record in strong year

Building relationships and buildings in the safest, most efficient and budget-conscious way possible has been Poettker Construction Company’s mission since 1980.

“Our employer modification rate – the number used by insurance carriers to determine past and future risks – is the lowest in our company’s history,” said Ryan Poettker, vice president project management. “We’ve gone three years without a recordable injury. Our No. 1 priority is to ensure that each day every one of our workers goes home to his family at the end of the day in the same condition that he left for work that morning,” he added. “We take safety very seriously, and so do our clients.”
Throughout the past year, the Poettker team, comprised of 130 employees, logged more than 242,000 man-hours, an incredible feat, according to Poettker, and evidence that the regional construction economy is rebounding.
Among the plethora of active projects under way for Poettker Construction includes the Planet Fitness in Edwardsville. Construction of this $5 million, 31,000-square-foot, two-story fitness facility began in August 2015 and is expected to reach completion this month (January). Poettker says the facility – which includes four distinct fitness circuit areas and hydro-massage beds — is the first stand-alone fitness club constructed by Poettker Construction.
“We’ve developed a solid relationship with the Planet Fitness Team,” he said. “They have big plans for our area, and we hope to continue working with them on many more facilities in the future.”
Also, Poettker Construction is currently reviewing bids in anticipation of starting construction this month on the McKendree Metro Rec Plex located in O’Fallon, Ill., along Illinois Route 50 and Troy-O’Fallon Road. This 151,000-square-foot complex will include two NHL-sized ice rinks, a championship-size swimming pool and half-court basketball court. The Southern Illinois Ice Hawks youth hockey association will play there along with McKendree University’s hockey and aquatic teams, Poettker said.
In addition, CarMax selected Poettker Construction to construct its first Metro East location, an 8,411-square-foot auto supercenter in O’Fallon, Ill. on Central Park Drive. Completion is projected for February 2016.
Poettker Construction Company provides a full range of professional construction services including Construction Management, General Contracting, Design/Build, and pre- and post- construction services.
