King Bridge to reopen Friday afternoon, IDOT says

From Illinois Business Journal news services

EAST ST. LOUIS – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced the planned reopening of the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge over the Mississippi River in East St. Louis.

Due to work being completed sooner than expected, the MLK bridge will be reopened to traffic prior to the afternoon rush hour (by 4 p.m.) on Friday, Dec. 18. Additionally, the ramp from St. Clair Avenue to westbound Interstates 55/64 will be reopened at the same time.

After the bridge is reopened to traffic, there will be periodic temporary closures of the bridge over the next several months to complete minor work items and remove the contractor’s scaffolding. Any additional closures will be limited to weekends and/or weekday off-peak traffic hours. The contractor on the project is Keeley and Sons of East St. Louis.
