Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois to hold camp retirement celebration

GLEN CARBON – Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is inviting all current and former members and families to join the organization as it “retires” Camp Whispering Oaks in Salem, Ill.

The camp is being retired Friday through Sunday, Nov. 6 to 8. Events will kick off with an opening ceremony and campfire on that Friday at 7:30 p.m. Camp-related activities will be available throughout Saturday, and the celebration will conclude with a closing ceremony on Sunday at 2 p.m.

People are invited to participate in any or all of the festivities, and overnight camping is also available. There is no fee for attending the celebration; however, reservations are required if participating in the Friday and/or Saturday overnight. Friday evening meals are available for those choosing to camp Friday night.
