ST. LOUIS — Halfway through its 2015 annual fund-raising campaign, United Way of Greater St. Louis campaign co-chairs, Laclede Group CEO Suzanne Sitherwood and Sue McCollum, chairman and CEO of Major Brands Inc., today announced that people in the St. Louis region have raised more than $38.05 million, passing the halfway mark of this year’s campaign goal of $74.25 million to help people in our region.
United Way will commemorate the end of the two-month long campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
People can pledge a donation by calling (314) 421-0700 or visiting HelpingPeople.org. The money raised for the local campaign will stay in the 16 Missouri and Illinois counties United Way of Greater St. Louis serves: St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles, Jefferson, Franklin, Warren, and Lincoln in Missouri; Calhoun, Green, Macoupin, Jersey, Madison, Clinton, St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph in Illinois.
“We’re excited and energized by the St Louis region’s early support of the 2015 United Way campaign,” said McCollum. “Though we still have more work to do, we are incredibly hopeful that we are on a positive track to meeting our goal and helping people in our region thrive.”
Campaign co-chair Suzanne Sitherwood added: “People throughout our 16-county region can say that we’re fortunate to live in a community where we are willing to help our neighbors and friends in times of need. It is because of this support that tens of thousands of people in our community will get needed resources like food, shelter, safe havens and much more. Sue and I would like to thank the thousands of companies, individuals and employees who have already given, and encourage others to give what they can in these final weeks to help in our area.”
In June, United Way tapped Sitherwood and McCollum to serve as co-chairs of its 2015 fund-raising campaign. Last year, United Way’s campaign was chaired by Scott Schnuck, chairman of the board of Schnuck Markets, Inc.; Mike DeCola, CEO of HBM Holdings, served as co-chair. More than 150,000 people and 2,500 businesses donated to United Way.
