Think Pink for Breast Health Awareness at St. Clair Square

BELLEVILLE — On Saturday, Oct. 17, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and HSHS Home Care Southern Illinois will play host to a Think Pink for Breast Health Awareness event.

The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Clair Square’s Center Court, next to the newly sponsored play area on the lower level.

As October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, the event will include information on preventative breast health, breast cancer services and breast cancer support. St. Elizabeth’s and HSHS Home Care Southern Illinois will also be offering free glucose, cholesterol (requires fasting), bone density and blood pressure screenings, plus information will additionally be provided by, among others, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital-Breese, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital-Highland, HSHS Medical Group, Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, Memorial and St. Elizabeth’s Cancer Treatment Center, and Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.

Guests are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast health.

Dr. Shelley Harris, interim chief executive officer for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, said that, nationally, breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women.

Scott Credit Union serves as the official Breast Health sponsor of the event. Representatives will be on hand offering financial health information and will giveaway two St. Louis Rams tickets for the Breast Cancer Awareness game on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Edward Jones Dome.

Several St. Clair Square Mall stores will also participate to support the awareness event. Dillard’s will offer in-store personalized bra fittings. Oasis will offer an interactive skin care table at the event, plus has donated attendance prizes and will offer 30 percent off on in-store purchases when wearing pink. Talbots has donated attendance prizes, Additionally, Kirkland’s staff will be supporting breast health and all women affected by breast cancer by wearing pink for the day.
