Maschhoff Family Foods transitioning leadership

From Illinois Business Journal news services

ST. LOUIS — A leadership transition is underway and should be complete by Sept. 8 at Maschhoff Family Foods, the holding company of The Maschhoffs, LLC and GNP Company.

Jason Logsdon, CEO of Maschhoff Family Foods, is leaving the company to pursue what he says is his passion for investing. Logsdon, who started as chief financial officer at The Maschhoffs in 2003 and became CEO of Maschhoff Family Foods in 2012, will join the Maschhoff Family Foods board and continue to counsel the organization in strategic business areas.

Effective Sept. 8, Tim Schellpeper, most recently president/chief operating officer of Kansas City-based fresh meat and packaged foods company Smithfield-Farmland, will become CEO — assuming leadership of Maschhoff Family Foods. The company also officially named Dr. Bradley Wolter as president of The Maschhoffs — a role he has held on an interim basis since April 2015.

“I truly appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to lead such a tremendous organization,” says Logsdon. “I’m very excited to remain involved in the business while pursuing a long-time personal interest of mine. I will greatly miss the day-to-day leadership of the team, and remain very committed to the success of the organization and the Maschhoff family. I have absolute confidence that Tim will do an outstanding job.”

Ken Maschhoff, chairman of the board, agrees, saying he couldn’t be more pleased with the appointment of Schellpeper as CEO. “I’ve known Tim for a long time, and believe he is uniquely positioned to lead the organization due to his farming background, more than 30 years of protein industry experience, outstanding character, vast leadership skills, and excellent cultural fit,” Maschhoff explains. “Tim is a people person with a strong work ethic and a very active, visible management style. He is known for challenging and developing the people around him.”

The Maschhoffs, LLC is a hog production company headquartered in Carlyle. The company has more than 100 years of experience in hog production and is the largest family-owned hog producer network in North America,

Based in St. Cloud, Minn., GNP Company is a provider of premium branded and custom chicken products to retail, deli and food service customers nationally.

The company said the timing of the announcements was being done in advance to “ensure a smooth and seamless changeover.” Logsdon is working closely with Maschhoff, Schellpeper and the Executive Committee to ensure business continuity and the transfer of critical business knowledge, the company said.
