Eastbound lanes of MLK Bridge to shut down to prep for repairs

From Illinois Business Journal news services

EAST ST. LOUIS – The Illinois Department of Transportation will close the eastbound lanes of the Martin Luther King Bridge all  weekend and periodically next week, in preparation for repairs.

IDOT said the eastbound lanes will be closed to all traffic beginning on Friday, June 5, at 8 p.m. and will remain closed to traffic until Monday, June 8 at 6 a.m. Then, starting on Monday, June 8, the eastbound lanes will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8  each evening and reopened to traffic by 6 each morning, weather permitting. This work is required to install scaffolding in advance of upcoming repairs.

A marked detour will be in place to guide motorists around this work zone. The department asks that motorists be patient, reduce speed, watch for stopped traffic ahead and use additional caution when traveling near this work zone.

The contractor on this project is Keeley and Sons of East St. Louis. Questions can be directed to Joe Gasaway, IDOT supervising field engineer, (618) 346-3354.
