Two local fire departments win water company photo contest

BELLEVILLE – Illinois American Water announced today the winners of the company’s social media photo contest to benefit Illinois firefighters. Three Illinois fire departments will share a donation of $3,000.
Between May 4 and May 15, Illinois American Water invited the public to vote on photos submitted by fire departments from across the state. During the contest, which was launched in conjunction with National Drinking Water Week, more than 11,200 votes were cast. Based on voting, Illinois American Water will issue donations as follows:
· Godfrey Fire Protection District in the Alton District – $1,250 (first place).
· Q.E.M. Fire Protection District in the Alton District – $1,000 (second place).
· Northwest Homer Fire Protection District in the Chicago Metro District – $750 (third place).
The contest helped raise awareness about the role drinking water plays in critical fire protection.
