From Illinois Business Journal news services

The Illinois Metro East Small Business Development Center at SIUE, in partnership with the city of Highland and SCORE, will present a learning opportunity for budding entrepreneurs and future business owners.

The event will take place 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Latzer Memorial Public Library, 1001 Ninth St., Highland.

The “Starting a Business in Illinois” workshop is being held for the first time in Highland. Attendees will learn how to:

– develop a viable business plan;

– properly register business with state and/or local agencies; and

– explore business financing options.

In addition, attendees will get the opportunity to ask questions about a specific business idea and any next steps in their startup process. This course is highly recommended for anyone developing a new for-profit business concept.

There is a $10 register fee to cover administrative cost. Registrants should anticipate paying by check or cash at the door. (Checks should be made payable to “SIUE.”)

To register or get more details about the workshop, contact Giovanna Di Maggio May, Illinois Metro East SBDC business specialist at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, (618) 650-2929.
