Local credit union soars to the top for collection of property taxes

From Illinois Business Journal news services

GRANITE CITY — Madison County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler recently recognized an area credit union for its exemplary service in collecting property taxes during the past year.

Prenzler presented a “top performance certificate” to GCS Credit Union branch on Maryville Road in Granite City.

“This award is presented to the financial institution in Madison County that performed the best during the collection of taxes this past year,” Prenzler said.

There are more than 100 branches of banks and credit unions throughout the county that accept real estate tax payments. The county collects taxes in four installments — July, September, October and December.

“Collector banks and credit unions are an easy and convenient way for taxpayers to make a payment,” Prenzler said.

These financial institutions collect approximately 18 percent of taxes for the county. Visit www.madcotreasurer.org to find a list of collector banks and credit unions where you can pay.
