EDWARDSVILLE – James (Jamie) Linsin, PhD, is the new director of Counseling Services at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
The St. Louis native emerged from a national search as the top candidate to lead the University to a higher level of excellence by promoting the personal, social, emotional and cognitive growth of SIUE students.
“Dr. Linsin comes to SIUE with considerable experience and knowledge of the challenges and complexities of students’ emotional and psychological attributes,” said Narbeth Emmanuel, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “His values of student centeredness, a commitment to student success and his professional and collaborative spirit fits well with our values and is consistent with our expectations.”
Linsin noted the welcoming and collegial environment at SIUE, and the enthusiasm shown for the University and community as important factors in his desire to serve as director.
“I am excited about the opportunity to lead counseling services at SIUE,” said Linsin.
“One of my goals is to make counseling services as visible and accessible on campus as possible. I want our services to be readily available to students who need someone to talk to, and faculty and staff seeking consultation.”
Linsin has a wealth of experience, including the coordination of outreach programs addressing mental health, sexual assault, domestic violence and LGBT issues.
He has a doctorate of psychology in clinical psychology, and most recently served as counseling psychologist and coordinator of outreach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
