ACT drivers honored for perfect safety

GRANITE CITY – The Agency for Community Transit board of trustees recently recognized eight fixed-route bus drivers for 10 and 15 years of perfect safety while operating an agency vehicle.
To retain the ‘perfect safety’ designation, as defined by the National Safety Council, drivers must, in all situations, make every effort possible to avoid an accident.
The drivers who have reached the 10 year milestone have logged more than 20,000 hours behind the wheel without a preventable accident and more than 30,000 hours for those who have reached the 15 year mark. ACT award recipients for 15 years of perfect safety include: Marilyn Elick of Brighton, Eric Fry of Moro, Zereeta Kinney-Lee of Godfrey, Tim Wilson of Collinsville, and Monte O’Bannon of Glen Carbon. ACT award recipients for 10 years of perfect safety include David Forbes of Alton, Ron Gibson of Granite City, and Bob Slantz of Edwardsville.
“Safety is our top priority,” said Jerry Kane, Executive Director. “These drivers not only respond properly to situations on the road, they’re anticipating the actions of other motorists. It is indeed an honor to recognize their years of achievement.”
