Poettker Construction coming off best year in its history

p10 poetker    Poettker Construction Co. enjoyed many opportunities in the retail and education industries in 2014 with 15 local projects in progress or recently completed. As a result, the company is celebrating the most successful year in its 34-year history with a projected total of $77.5 million in sales.
In the retail industry, Poettker Construction Co. managed the $6 million construction and renovation project for the Times Square Mall in Mount Vernon. Upgrades included a new exterior façade, signage, parking and landscaping for the entire mall. The team built seven additional mall spaces to accommodate new stores such as Ross Dress for Less, Big Lots! and Hobby Lobby.
The company completed an extensive site work package to prepare for the construction of a new Walmart Supercenter in Florissant. The $19.9 million, 169,426-square-foot store should open in July.
A new client of Poettker is The Fresh Market, which is opening its first Missouri store in Creve Coeur. The project entails the façade renovation and tenant up-fit of a 25,302-square-foot, existing one-story building. Construction consists of interior finishes, refrigeration and food service equipment installation.
In the education industry, Poettker is the general and concrete contractor with a $21.6 million contract for the renovation and expansion of the State Farm Center at the University of Illinois. The center will feature a new basketball court, seating, scoreboards, locker rooms and meeting areas. Upgraded restrooms, concessions, an expanded West Grand entrance, and a new East entrance will also be constructed.
“Many general contractors subcontract concrete work but Poettker Construction Co. is unique in that we offer it under our own company umbrella,” says Ryan Poettker. “This offering makes the process more efficient for our clients.”
Currently under construction is Wingate Elementary School in the Mascoutah school district. As construction manager, Poettker is building the $21 million, 83,512-square-foot school that will include 24 classrooms, conference rooms, a media center, gymnasium, multipurpose room, stage area, cafeteria and kitchen. The school is scheduled for completion in June.
“We have worked with eight repeat customers in 2014, which is a real privilege,” says Poettker. “We take customer service seriously.”
Poettker’s father, Charles Poettker, founded the construction company in 1980. It is licensed in 15 states and maintains 120 employees.
