I-270 ramp to be closed to allow for new pavement connector

The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that the ramp from eastbound Interstate 270 to southbound Illinois Route 3 near Granite City will be temporarily closed to all traffic beginning Thursday, Oct. 9, weather permitting.

Traffic will be rerouted eastbound on I-270 to 203, under I-270, and then back onto westbound I-270.

The closure is necessary to construct the connector from the new eastbound I-270 pavement to the existing southbound Route 3 ramp. The work is expected to be completed by Oct. 17, 2014.

In addition, a lane closure on eastbound I-270 will be encountered Thursday night, Oct. 9, after 9 p.m. to make preparations of shifting traffic from the existing I-270 onto the new I-270 pavement. The lane will be reopened by 5 a.m. Friday.

The Department asks that motorists be patient, reduce speed, watch for stopped traffic ahead, and use additional caution when traveling near and throughout this work zone.

The contractor on this project is Walsh Construction Company of Chicago, IL. Barry Gibbs is the Supervising Field Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation in the area. If you have any questions concerning this project, you may contact him at 618/346-3351.
