Enyart wants hearing into service members’ missing vehicles

BELLEVILLE – U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart, D-Belleville, has formally requested a hearing into the loss of privately owned vehicles of military personnel through a third party contract with U.S. Transportation Command.

“We need to get to the bottom of this – quickly,” said Enyart on Wednesday. “Today, I sent a formal letter of request to Committee Chairman Buck McKeon to hold a hearing regarding the loss of privately owned vehicles belonging to our men and women in uniform.”

U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, of which Enyart is a member, is chaired by Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon and holds purview over hearings related to the armed services.

Earlier this summer, complaints began to build against a government contractor responsible for shipping and storing private vehicles belonging to service members, including some at Scott Air Force Base. Many vehicles have gone missing or are unaccounted for since the contract began May 1.

“Men and women serving our country need to be focused on their mission, focused on their families, and focused on their own safety – not worried about where their car is located,” added Enyart. “That’s why I’ve requested a hearing on this matter, to get answers for our service members.”
