Tom Coppotelli, former assistant police chief for the Collinsville Police Department, is the new director of public safety and security for Lindenwood University-Belleville.
Coppotelli is the first to fill this new position at Lindenwood Belleville and began his duties on Aug. 1. He is a two-time graduate of Lindenwood Belleville, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2009 and a master’s in human resource management in 2011. He has also served as an adjunct instructor on campus for the past three years.
Coppotelli has served in the Collinsville Police Department since 1990 and has occupied the role of assistant police chief for the past five years. He previously worked as a patrol officer in the Sauget Police Department and Washington Park Police Department, and before that served as a firefighter for the Village of National City.
In his new role at Lindenwood Belleville, Coppotelli will supervise armed police officers and unarmed safety officers through the Cops for Credit program and will oversee security and parking at the Belleville campus and Collinsville extension center.
“We are thrilled to have Major Coppotelli assume the role of director of public safety and security,” said Dr. Angela Wingo, dean of students. “He brings a wealth of experience and ideas to the position, and our campus community will benefit greatly from his leadership. We look forward to Major Coppotelli assuming his role and moving our campus forward.”
