Congressmen offer seniors upcoming program on federal assistance

GLEN CARBON – U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., and John Shimkus, R-Ill., today announced that they will be hosting a senior resources event from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Meridian Village, 27 Auerbach Place, in Glen Carbon.

“Every day our local offices help seniors with a wide range of issues,” said Davis. “This resources fair is simply an extension of those services to ensure that our seniors have the information and access they need to obtain answers and assistance from the federal government.”

“Providing answers to questions is part of our job,” said Shimkus. “And sometimes other offices have more specifics than we do, thus this senior resource fair will have many services all available in one place to help answer your questions.”

The resources fair will provide seniors and their families with information on services provided by the Social Security Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Southwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging, the Glen Carbon Senior Center, the United States Post Office, the Edwardsville Main Street Community Center, the Veterans Administration, St. John’s Adult Day Programs, the Madison County Public Transit System, the AARP Foundation and Senior Services Plus.

The event will begin with presentations from the Social Security Administration, CMS/ Medicare, and the Southwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. The resources fair will begin immediately following the presentations.
