$266,000 awarded to Murphysboro Fire Department going to truck

MURPHYSBORO – U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart, D-Belleville, has announced that the Murphysboro Fire Department will receive a $266,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

“This grant will go a long way for folks at the Murphysboro Fire Department,” said Enyart.

“The citizens of Murphysboro will be well served by a new fire truck, which will now be possible due to the approval of this grant from F.E.M.A.,” said Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens. “I want to thank Congressman Enyart, Murphysboro Fire Chief Steve Swafford, and F.E.M.A. for realizing the importance of this grant, and going above and beyond to make this award possible.”

The Department of Homeland Security awarded the grant to the Murphysboro Fire Department through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant was awarded specifically for vehicle acquisition, which can include pumpers, aerials, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances.
