First property tax distribution set for Madison County

EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler says local taxing districts are set to receive approximately $90 million in real estate taxes this month.

It will be the first and the largest distribution for the year. He said the funds are currently being distributed to more than 200 school districts, municipalities and other taxing agencies.

“The quicker we process and send revenues to taxing districts, the better we serve the taxpayers,” Prenzler said.

He said that $31.8 million was distributed during June, from payments made prior to the first due date.

Last year, the Madison County Treasurer’s Office distributed around $380 million in property taxes on 137,000 parcels. The 18 grade school, unit school and community college districts received more than $228 million.

Prenzler said taxpayers can pay online at www.madcotreasurer.org, or take their payments to any of the more than 100 collector banks throughout the county, in addition to paying by mail.

“Paying with an eCheck is free, secure and saves time,” he said.

Taxpayers can make an immediate payment or schedule the remaining three payments online, which will be automatically withdrawn from the taxpayer’s checking or savings account on Sept. 9, Oct. 9 and Dec. 9.

“Online payments are increasingly popular,” Prenzler said. “People can pay whenever it’s convenient.”
