New westbound lanes on canal bridge project to open Friday

The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that the westbound lanes of the “new” Interstate 270 Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge, near Granite City, will be opened to traffic on Friday, July 11.

In addition, the westbound I-270 ramp at Illinois Route 3 will also be reopened that day.

The eastbound lanes of the new Canal Bridge should be opened to traffic by the end of September, weather permitting, IDOT said.

The contractor on this project is Walsh Construction Co. of Chicago
