Measure advances to name area highway after fallen firefighter

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Senate this month adopted a resolution honoring fallen Firefighter Tim Jansen of Bartelso.

House Joint Resolution 74, sponsored by Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, in the Senate, was introduced by state Rep. Charlie Meier, R-Okawville, and passed the Illinois House on April 7.

“I am happy the Senate adopted this Resolution that will honor a well-deserving man who gave his life while serving his community,” Meier said. “Now, we will be able to designate a portion of Illinois Route 161 as the Firefighter Tim Jansen Memorial Highway.”

Tim Jansen was a resident of Bartelso where he lived with his wife, Brenda and their two daughters, Mackenna and Jenna. He was a 15-year veteran of the Santa Fe Fire Protection District for which he gave his life in the line of duty while fighting a fire in 2012.

If the governor approves House Joint Resolution 74, it will designate the section of Illinois Route 161 between the intersection of Hanover Street in Germantown and the intersection of South B Street in Bartelso as the Firefighter Tim Jansen Memorial Highway.

“Although Tim’s family and friends will never forget the pain that accompanies such a tragic accident, the memorial highway honoring Tim Jansen will serve as a reminder of how much he is missed throughout the community he served for so many years,” Meier said.
