Maeystown Fire Department awarded $11K grant

MAEYSTOWN – U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart, D-Belleville, has announced that the Maeystown Fire Department will receive a grant for the amount of $11,936.

The grant was awarded from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

“Maeystown is a great example of a small town fire department providing top of the line response and operations for residents in Monroe County,” said Enyart. “I am pleased to announce over $11,000 from Homeland Security to continue their steadfast efforts.”

The grant awarded to Maeystown specifically funds operations and safety programs like professional training, wellness and fitness programs equipment, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety.

In Fiscal Year 2013, FEMA Assistance to the Firefighters Grant Program will award approximately $320.9 million directly to fire departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
