The Korte Company has started construction on the new $5.8 million Stillwater Senior Living Community, located in the 1100 block of University Drive in Edwardsville.
Developed by Kathy Long of Genesis Development Group, the community is designed for both independent and assisted living residents. The single story, 45,190-square-foot facility will consist of 46 apartments and suites.
The majority of the apartments will be one-bedroom units consisting of 585 square feet. Several two-bedroom units at 882 square feet will also be available. The apartments will feature a private dining area, kitchenette and bathroom. They are each handicap-accessible with a private, walk-out patio.
Residents will have use of a central activity area, multipurpose room, main dining room, fireside lounge, laundry room and beauty salon. Additional spaces include a kitchen and nurse’s station.
The community will be pet-friendly and encourage the residents to bring their pets. The design includes outdoor facilities for the animals to exercise.
Utz & Associates Architects PC of Effingham, Ill., designed the facility and added unique touches. Ornate woodwork adorns the public areas such as crown molding, wood beams and columns. Cultured stone accents and a large stone fireplace will enhance the fireside lounge. A wall fountain will add visual interest to the main lobby.
Skylights will be located in both the entrance hall and the dining area to brighten the spaces and contribute to energy efficiency. Windows throughout the facility will be tinted to avoid glare and to contribute to the comfort of the residents.
The exterior façade of the building will be constructed with fiber cement siding and
brick veneer. According to Chief Operating Officer Jason Mantle, sitework has begun and the construction team is currently pouring the foundations. The project is on schedule to be completed in November.
Stillwater Senior Living Community is designed to facilitate a culture change in how senior living has developed through the years. Instead of the residents having to change their way of life, the center will work with the residents, offering individualized schedules and activities that are more in line with a healthier, more active demographic.
