SIUE’s rising ACT, recognitions give university bright outlook

SIUE has had a highly active and productive year.
The following are some accomplishments of which the university is particularly proud:
    • Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s fall 2013 semester was highlighted by record total enrollment in the Schools of Engineering, Nursing and Pharmacy. The new freshman class average ACT (23.0) increased two-tenths of a point over last year and is the highest in university history. Total student enrollment — 13,850 — ranks fifth all-time at SIUE.
    • SIUE’s nationally accredited academic programs of study are offered at one of the lowest four-year tuition rates in Illinois. Beginning with the fall 2014 semester, newly entering freshmen and transfer students from surrounding regional states will pay the same in-state tuition rate as students from Illinois.
    • For the fourth-consecutive year, Washington Monthly ranks SIUE among the Top 60 out of the 684 master’s universities in the nation. Unlike conventional college rankings, Washington Monthly evaluates an institution’s “contribution to the public good” in three broad categories: Social Mobility, Research and Service.
In fiscal year 2013, SIUE faculty and staff received approximately $42 million in grants and contracts for research, teaching and service initiatives. As a result, Washington Monthly ranks SIUE sixth among master’s-granting institutions by research expenditures.
U.S.News & World Report Best Colleges of 2014 lists SIUE among the best Regional Universities Midwest for the tenth-consecutive year and among the top 10 public universities in that category. The overall scores are based on the reputation of SIUE in higher education, graduate and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
    • Recognizing SIUE’s commitment to volunteering and service-learning, the Corporation for National and Community Service named SIUE to the annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the fourth-consecutive year.
    • Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named SIUE a “Military Friendly School” for the fifth-consecutive year.
    • Since 2006, SIUE has been working to complete more than $300 million in construction and infrastructure improvements, adding innovative state-of-the-art buildings and enhancing existing structures. Recently completed projects include the Science Building Complex, Art and Design Building expansion, Engineering Building addition and Vadalabene Center Lukas Athletics Annex.
    • SIUE is fully certified at the Division I level by the NCAA and is now is fully eligible to compete for NCAA championships. Spring 2013 marked the 14th consecutive semester all student-athletes have earned a cumulative 3.0 or higher GPA.
