Poettker Construction enjoys busy year, looks to another
Founded in 1980, Poettker Construction Co. is a second-generation family-owned business specializing in providing exceptional construction expertise for health-care and educational institutions as well as retail and industrial clients throughout the Midwest region of the U.S.
Poettker provides a full range of services to its clients, including general contracting, design-build, construction management, and other pre- and post-construction services. Poettker’s guiding principle is to build a long-lasting relationship with clients by “Exceeding their Expectations” in all aspects of the construction process.
In 2013, Poettker worked on several projects for St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, Ill., nine education projects throughout Southern Illinois, numerous industrial projects for various clients, federal government work at Scott Air Force Base, several religious institutions throughout the Southern Illinois area, and retail development work in eight different states for various clients.
Poettker Construction is in the planning stages for a new elementary school for Mascoutah School District located in the Wingate subdivision in Shiloh, Ill. Construction of the school is scheduled to begin in March of 2014 immediately following mine grouting remediation work of the property. Poettker Construction is the construction manager overseeing the mine remediation work for the project as well as the construction of the school. FGM Architects out of O’Fallon, Ill., is the project architect and SCI Engineering performed the mine exploratory services in preparation for mine grouting.
Ryan Poettker, the company’s vice president of project management, said, “The Mascoutah School District project is just getting started, and we are excited and looking forward to getting construction underway.”
Other projects Poettker worked on this past year in the education/community market include an elementary classroom addition in Raymond, Ill., for Panhandle School District No. 2, a new library facility for Case-Halstead Library in Carlyle, Ill., two projects for SIUE, two contracts for work associated with the new high school facility for Marion School District, a student services building addition for Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., and an elementary school addition for Ramsey School District.
Poettker has completed numerous churches over the 34-year history of the firm and is excited about the opportunity to be a part of the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church construction team. Construction of the church will start in late March 2014 with a 12-month construction duration. The architect for the new church is Cram & Ferguson Architects of Concord, Mass.
This project is very close to the heart at Poettker. The original St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ridgway, Ill., was destroyed by an EF4 tornado on Feb. 29, 2012. The 140-year-old church was a landmark to the community that took the brunt of the tornado that February morning, thus weakening it as it passed over the residences in the community.
