Lindenwood adding dorm, new sports

BELLEVILLE — Lindenwood University-Belleville expects to have the ability to house 1,000 students on campus by late next year when the second of two residence halls is completed.
It is the latest in a series of positive developments for the decade-old facility, which continues to see record enrollment.
“Currently, we have over 600 students living on campus. When the women’s dormitory is completed in December, our housing capacity will total around 800, and the new men’s dorm will give us the ability to house 1,000 students on campus by fall 2014,” said Dr. Jerry Bladdick, president of the Belleville campus.
The board voted in November  to approve the construction of a second new residence hall and the addition of four new sports to the roster at the Belleville campus.
The new dormitory will be the second to be constructed in less than a year. The school broke ground on its first all-female residence hall in May 2012, and the 200-bed facility was scheduled for student move-in this month.
The second dormitory will be all-male, with a capacity of approximately 200 students. The new $4 million structure will face the campus across West Main Street where the former New Freedom Baptist Church stood earlier this year. Construction is to begin in February.
The four newly added sports are men’s and women’s ice hockey and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. These sports will be introduced during the 2014-2015 academic year, bringing the total sports offerings at Lindenwood Belleville up to 27.
