Memorial seeks second med office at hospital

    SHILOH — Memorial Regional Health Services, Metro-East Services, Memorial Group and BJC HealthCare have filed a Certificate of Need application with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board for Phase II of a medical office building project on the 94-acre campus of Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh.
    Phase II includes a three-story, 66,400-square-foot medical office building that will provide space for physician specialists and services as well as expansion of Memorial Medical Group’s primary and specialty care providers. Estimated cost is $32.4 million.
    The CON application is expected to be reviewed by the state later this year. If approved, construction would begin in early 2018 with completion slated for mid-2019.
    Phase I of the project, a 70,500-square-foot, three-story medical office building, is scheduled for occupancy in October and is nearly fully leased.
    Phase I includes MMG orthopedic, OB/GYN, family medicine, vascular and pulmonary physicians, Lincoln Surgical Associates, Washington University School of Medicine pediatric specialists, the Harold and Dixie LePere Breast Health Center, physical therapy/rehab services, laboratory draw services and radiology.

New plan envisions $18 million rec complex

    FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS — A master plan developed by EWR Architects Inc. is providing city officials and residents a long-range vision for the proposed $18 million Fairview Heights Recreation Complex.
    The recently completed plan for the 30-plus-acre site at the northwest corner of Bunkum Road and Interstate 64 includes a 68,000-square-foot recreation facility, a 400-meter, six-lane running track, soccer fields, a dog park, pavilions, playgrounds, and a 1.5-mile walking path and nature trail.
    Site improvement plans detail a phased construction schedule that will start with construction of the recreation center this October. The initial phase also includes site clearing and grading, parking and a service road. The additional phases of construction are dependent on project funding.

Seven soccer fields finished in O’Fallon

    O’FALLON, ILL. – Officials say the O’Fallon Family Sports Park scored big time with a cooperative purchasing agreement that delivered seven new soccer fields in fewer than 90 days while saving $1 million.
    Rather than put the project out to bid, the city tapped the National Joint Power Alliance to complete all of its product and service purchasing. The turnkey project for the artificial turf field was procured through Alliance vendor Shaw Sports Turf, based in Calhoun, Ga.
    St. Louis-based Byrne & Jones Sports performed the work transforming the sports complex’s natural turf fields to synthetic turf.
    The Alliance is based in Staples, Minn. It says it leverages the national purchasing power of more than 50,000-member agencies while also streamlining the required purchasing process. In the case of O’Fallon, it established a guaranteed maximum price of $4.5 million for the seven new fields, including installation.
    The city originally projected the cost to be $5.5 million to put the bid out themselves, including the product and warranty, engineering and the certified builder to perform site preparation and installation.
    The new fields are part of renovations to the O’Fallon Family Sports Park that include new restrooms and parking lot improvements to accommodate 700 vehicles. The new fields will be used for soccer, lacrosse and other activities.
    “The Shaw Sports Turf package met all the standards that schools and public entities should look for in the purchasing of synthetic turf system, including price, durability, longevity, safety and playability,” said Jameson Sheley, general manager, Byrne & Jones Sports.
    As budgets become tighter, more schools and public entities are turning to cooperative purchases to save costs and streamline construction. Sheley noted that it can be a challenge to find the right building partner for athletic surfaces. “Cooperative purchasing agreements have made easier for public entities because they’ve thoroughly vetted the product and installation specifications that must be followed in the bid package,” noted Sheley.
