Construction-management firm IMPACT Strategies says work underway on the new Edwardsville Public Safety Facility should be completed in late fall.
The two-story building, located adjacent to the Leon Corlew Park and Splash Pad south of downtown, will feature brick with cast stone accents. The city of Edwardsville is funding the $12 million project. Work began in October 2016.
The new 51,500-square-foot facility will house the full police department and the fire department’s administration and primary fire house functions. The lobby, training room and fitness room were designed as shared spaces and centered between the departments.
The final plan allows for both departments to cohabitate while maintaining privacy. The public will enter into the lobby, which will direct people to either the police or fire departments. The facility will have a large training room, which will also serve as an Emergency Operation Center. The room will be dividable to host several different events simultaneously.
FGM Architects in O’Fallon is the project designer and is working closely with IMPACT Strategies on the project.
“The project is going very well,” said project manager Mike Michael. He credits this to the teamwork between all the parties involved.
Michael estimates the project is about 30 percent complete. The concrete foundations are complete, structural steel is erected, exterior framing/sheathing is installed and site utility infrastructure has been completed.
Remaining work includes the interior framing, exterior site work and the interior and exterior finishes.
Michael said everything is moving along as scheduled. “There has been a lot of activity inside and out,” he said.
The firm has completed a number of projects in the Edwardsville area, including the Enclave and Enclave West student housing community, Park Plaza and Cedarhurst.
