The Korte Company was propelled to a strong year in 2016 by projects ranging in size from 1,000 square feet to more than 800,000 square feet and scattered across the nation from Louisiana to Washington. All told, the company logged $280 million in revenue for the year.
“During 2016, The Korte Company experienced substantial growth across almost every sector of our business capture profile,” said Todd Korte, the company’s president and CEO. “From health care to distribution centers, we’ve been able to capitalize on growing markets within our core disciplines. We’ve also had the opportunity to extend geographically, adding projects in Oregon, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia and Idaho.”
“The Department of Defense continued on pace,” he added, “with a number of large projects in Washington as well as right here at Scott Air Force Base.”
The company started construction on 35 substantial projects during the year and reports that its backlog of work going into 2017 is at historic levels. To keep up with the demand, Korte increased its staff by 60 people.
Korte started or finished more than 500,000 square feet of buildings in Southern Illinois during the year. The largest project is a six-story, 284-room Visitor’s Quarters at Scott Air Force Base. When completed in the fall of 2017, the 170,000-square-foot facility is designed to be USGBC LEED Certified Silver.
The guest rooms include many of the amenities as a hotel room, including a bed, desk, closet, as well as a microwave and refrigerator. Business suites, located on the upper floors, are larger and have additional square footage for an in-room washer and dryer.
The facility also includes a fitness area, conference rooms, retail shops, business center, administrative offices, an outdoor patio and an on-site laundry.
But, its largest job was an 818,000-square-foot project for the United States Postal Service in Portland, Ore. It includes a 788,845-square-foot Processing and Distribution Center with Administration, Maintenance and Employee Support areas plus a 29,000-square foot Vehicle Maintenance Facility with 15 service bays, two body shops and a full-service wash bay. With a price tag of $93 million, it’s scheduled to be completed in 2018.
“Looking forward, we expect 2017 to remain strong with a number of projects slated to begin in the first and second quarters,” Korte said. “Historically, our numbers are as strong as they’ve ever been and we’re looking forward to continuing that trend throughout 2017.”
